Essex companies appear to be bucking the economic recession, if the record number of entries for the county's premier business awards is anything to go by.
The awards are acknowledged as the highlight of the year for the Essex business community. This annual award event is designed to recognise the achievements of the Essex business community and is hotly contested by companies across the county. The mix ranges from multinationals to family businesses, but whatever the size and whatever the nature, they are linked by the same characteristics - entrepreneurial drive, innovation, a passion to deliver customer service and value for money, and a determination to succeed.
Over 300 companies contended to be shortlisted, the highest number of entries in the competitions 13 year history. A total of 80 Essex based companies were selected as finalists competing for 33 awards in 14 categories.
Entrepreneurs and their guests formed the high-powered audience which packed the Cliffs Pavilion Southend-on-Sea theatre for this year's special black tie event.
The initial applications in the Environmental Awareness category were whittled down to just 9 finalists. This award is for companies/organisations actively committed to sound environmental practice as well as demonstrable cost saving in the workplace plus a clear commitment to protect and sustain resources for future generations.
The judges commented "It is often difficult for small companies to encompass environmental issues, but Uniscan has adopted a system ensuring all business aspects take the environment into account. Uniscan successfully demonstrated a clear and measurable programme of actions to reduce their carbon footprint and effectively control their impact on the environment."
Recycling, energy saving and zero land fill in combination with a commitment to utilise local suppliers thereby reducing delivery mileage and emissions convinced the judges that Uniscan's environmental policy was of the highest calibre.
The team from Uniscan Limited was delighted to receive an award in the Environmental Awareness category.

Geoff Morris, Sales & Marketing Director commented
"The standard for awards at county level is extremely high with each category very keenly contested. This year's competition was no different with a record number of entrants and to win this award is an incredible achievement. We work very hard to reduce our impact on the environment and our policy of sourcing locally means our supplier delivery mileage is far superior when compared to imported products. Locally sourced products also contribute to the local economy helping protect employment opportunities. It really is testament to the hard work and support from all our staff and is a resounding endorsement of their commitment to the protection of sustainable resources for future generations."
